Presented by KCSM/Jazz 91 and the Fourth Street Merchants, the 12th Annual Jazz on Fourth street festival took place on Sunday May 18 from noon to 5pm on Fourth Street between Hearst and Virginia. This free outdoor music festival benefits the jazz music program at Berkeley High School. Performances this year featured EC Scott, the Khalil Shaheed Quintet, the John Santos Quartet, This Old Band and the award winning Berkeley High Jazz Ensemble and Combos.

The Berkeley High Jazz Program, once home to Joshua Redman, Dave Ellis, Ambrose Akinmusire, Peter Apfelbaum, Michael Wolff, Benny Green and many others, is a national model of instrumental education. The proceeds from this event helped the school continue the program - sending the ensemble to festivals and competitions around the world including Reno, Monterey, Japan and Montreux.

Fourth Street and the plaza was filled with merchants from Fourth Street offering superb menus, interactive displays and children's activities including free face painting.

Trumer Brewery and Takara Sake donated beverages for the event and there was an amazing raffle with over 22 prize packages of items donated by the merchants on Fourth Street. The Grand Prize was a shopping spree on Fourth Street ($1000 value).

Dont miss it next year!
